HEALTH MINISTER CHARGES FAULTY INFORMATION PASSED TO HEALTH WORKERS…

Health Minister John Maginley has charged that information passed on to health workers who feared that their jobs were at stake in the transition from Holberton Hospital to Mount St. John Medical Centre (MSJMC) was erroneous. Maginley insisted that workers are pre-empting lay-offs that may not take place as a result of the transition from Holberton Hospital to the Mount St. John Medical Centre. Outsourcing, Maginley said, was one of a number of options that the board was considering.

ANTIGUA WELCOMES CRUISE SHIPS…

Almost one week after the Carnival Victory made its inaugural call to the island, another new cruise ship dropped anchor at Antigua's port last Thursday. This time, industry stakeholders welcomed the Caribbean Princess, which is a part of the Princess Cruise Lines. The vessel, which arrived in Antigua with 3,200 passengers and 1,200 crewmembers, is known as the 'Grand Daddy' of the Princess fleet, with the largest carrying capacity.

ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA TO PARTICIPATE IN EXPO 2010…

Antigua and Barbuda is among ten Caricom states so far signaling an intention to participate in EXPO 2010, which will be held in Shanghai, China under the theme Better City, Better Life. Caricom's Secretary-General Edwin Carrington, and Commissioner-General of the Caricom Joint Participation in the World Exposition, signed the Leading Participation Agreement yesterday in Shanghai. The secretary-general is in China for co-operation talks between China and Caricom.

THE ANTIGUAN 2009…

A magazine promoting the Antigua and Barbuda destination throughout Europe was launched this week at the Antigua & Barbuda Stand at World Travel Market in London. The publisher, Kelly Scales, presented a copy of THE ANTIGUAN 2009, now in its 19th year of publication, to Minister of Tourism Harold Lovell. Also present were Colin James, CEO of the new Tourism Authority and Sharon Peters, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Tourism.
